Jensen Beach is a small beachside town on Florida’s Treasure Coast, nestled between Stuart to the South and Port St Lucie to the North.

Named after Pineapple farmer, John Laurence Jensen, the town was built on the site of his original plantation.

To this day, Jensen Beach celebrates its fruity heritage with the Annual Pineapple Festival held in November.

It’s size and location makes Jensen Beach a great place to relax away from the crowds of Miami Beach or Orlando

Hutchinson Island

One of the big draws of Jensen Beach is the beach itself.  Whether you want to just lay around in the sand, enjoy bathing in the ocean or catching some waves, this is a great place for it! Though you won’t find the sand as white as Florida’s Panhandle, the water is warm most of the year.

At night you might be lucky enough to see turtles nesting or hatching. Just be careful where you step as there are wooden pegs marking out the turtle nests. These can do you some damage if you walk into one in the dark (yes, speaking from experience).

If you look in the water as the waves lap at the shore you may see bioluminescence glowing on the sand. On a clear night, lift your eyes to the northern horizon – if there’s a rocket launch from Cape Kennedy, you might just see the flame of its ignition drifting towards the stars.

Hutchinson Shores

If you love the beach at night, then Hutchinson Shores is a great resort to pick, right on Jensen Beach.

Danielle and I stayed at Hutchinson Shores recently for her birthday and their staff really looked after us. I surprised her, she thought we were just going for dinner and we ended up staying the night. They gave us a beautiful room overlooking the beach. We celebrated with a drink by the bar overlooking the beach. Then we splurged on a delicious dinner at the Drift Kitchen while a storm passed over the ocean. We watch the lightning as we ate.

We enjoyed a quick swim in one of the two pools and relaxed in the hot tub before retiring for the night. When we got back to the room they had chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us with a bottle of champagne on ice. We opened the doors and listened to the waves crash on the shore as we drifted off to sleep.

The next morning we woke at first light and watched the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean.

Before checking out, we took some more time to relax by the pool. We also made use of the complimentary banana lounge on the beach. Hutchinson Shores really is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Ocean.

Morning Coffee

One of our favourite little places to grab coffee in Jensen Beach is at the Bunkhouse Coffee Bar.

It’s a quaint little cottage hidden back from the main strip, but is a favourite with locals.

Bunkhouse Smoothie

They often have a flavour of the month for the coffee, and also have drinks like smoothies along with cakes and slices and even smoothie bowls for breakfast.

A Jensen Beach Breakfast

There are a couple of breakfast places in Jensen Beach, including Mulligans who often have a special breakfast deal if you’re on a budget. But our favourite without a doubt is Jan’s Place, just across the road. They have all sorts of great breakfast options, including some rarities that you may never have tried before.

I’ve had the Steak Eggs Benedict with a spicy Hollandaise source, while Danielle enjoyed a more traditional bacon and egg croissant.

I’ve also tried their French Toast which is delicious!

Pampered at the Pink Cottage

After all that eating, and walking along the beach you will probably need to relax. The Pink Cottage sits just opposite the Bunkhouse Coffee Bar. You will often hear relaxation music playing as you walk past.

We picked up a couple’s massage and treatment for a great deal on Groupon and enjoyed 50 minutes of bliss – I nearly fell asleep. It is definitely a great treat for any couple. And if you call them and let them know that you heard about them through Groupon they will honour the Groupon deal directly. After your massage they will treat you with a Teamosa which is definitely worth trying.

There are plenty of activities to do while you’re in Jensen Beach. You can take a kayak out on the Indian River, or go stand up paddle boarding. We rented tandem kayaks at Native Water Sports in Jensen Beach and they delivered them to the perfect spot for us.

There are also plenty of fishing opportunities, whether you prefer to cast off from a boat, jetty or the shore. Not the fishing type? Maybe you’d prefer just to set up a hammock or lie on the grass in a park and read a book

Of an evening on a Thursday night, you can also head downtown to enjoy Jamin’ Jensen. You’ll find a great night market and atmosphere. Just remember to pack the mosquito spray.

Dinner in Jensen Beach

You won’t find any shortage of options for dinner time in Jensen Beach. On the road towards Sewall’s Point, you’ll find the Dolphin Bar, right on the water.

Not only a great view, the Dolphin Bar boasts some delicious seafood.

Conchy Joe’s

To the north of Jensen Beach is another seafood hot spot, Conchy Joe’s. Also on the water, you’ll be able to look down over the edge and see the fish while you eat.

The Hoffman

Next-door to Conchy Joe’s you’ll find the Hoffman. If you’re not up for seafood as much and prefer German food then the Hoffman is the place for you.

Tako Tiki

If it’s Mexican with a twist you’re looking for, Tako Tiki offers an interesting take on Tacos in a Tiki, evening garden environment.

Kyle G’s

Lastly, if you want a view of the beach, head back over to Hutchinson Island and check out Kyle G’s for dinner. You’ll find a range of seafood and steak dishes. Or just be able to enjoy a drink with a view of the ocean as the Sun sets.

If it’s a relaxing time by the beach with plenty of food options, then Jensen Beach is the place to be.
