We’re 18 days into our farewell tour across the USA, and although we had planned to be in Austin yesterday, we had to pull into Houston last night because of the traffic.
When we got on the road this morning we were relieved to find that there was a lot less traffic.
Returning Our Rental
We made good time and were at Austin within about 3 hours. The service light on our rental car had come on after we had driven almost halfway across the country. Thankfully Hertz just told us to go to Austin airport and switch the car over. We switched our Mitsubishi Outlander for a Toyota Rav 4. This gave us a lot more space, not only for luggage but it also felt roomier upfront.
Lunch in Austin
After picking up the new car we went over to the Sour Duck Market to get some lunch. This is a beautiful outdoor area with both a bar and a bakery. We got a Brisket melt, burger and tater tots with deviled eggs.
After a quick walk in the park downtown we went and stayed the night with some friends from Australia in Austin. It was great to catch up with old friends again.
We got a reasonably early night as we had a big drive tomorrow going through West Texas.
